 The Dog Days of Summer

The period known as the "Dog Days" of summer occurs from early July into mid-August. The Romans gave this period the name "dies canincula" or dog days because the dog star Sirius rises and sets with the sun during this time. They conjectured that the combined effect of the star and the sun was what made it so oppressively warm and humid. Of course, the heat from the star is not the cause of the dog days (the heat received from that star amounts to less than one ten-millionth of that from the sun) but, it does gives us an excuse to take it easy during this lazy, hazy time of year.

So I challenge you to create your very own dog days of summer image.

My Image

I couldn't resist giving my dog a cool place to rest.  Wish I really had this pond.
